You actually pinpointed a year? I personally just always assumed these captions took place in present day, but in an alternate reality. Makes more sense, considering the presence of today's celebrity, and many elements of our culture, in all these captions. Still, I do think body swapping will probably be available at some point in the future. Presumably through brain transplant.
